"Little el Nino" is the nickname that nine-year old Jonathan Ortiz has acquired since he was featured in an article in this newsletter one year ago. El nino is a weather event that originates in the Pacific Ocean and has a tremendous effect on our country.
How did Jonathan Ortiz come by such a dynamic nickname? The old fashioned way...he earned it; and at no better place than the golf course. He is a local-soon to be national sensation due to his accomplishments. Among them, 18 tournament wins at the junior level (nine wins in 2002!); the first junior golfer out of Philadelphia to qualify for the annual tournament sponsored by The Golf Channel; 63rd place in the 2001 Junior World Championship and will travel to San Diego this summer to compete in the 2002 Junior World Championship.
Jonathan received hands on instruction from Tiger Woods shortly after his 2002 US Open win. He traveled to Orlando for the privilege, along with 15 other junior golfers from the Philadelphia area.
When asked what instruction he received from Tiger, Jonathan said "He told me to keep my head still".
